SIGMA STYLE FRAGRANCE GUIDE
How to Find a Perfume That Actually Feels Like You
Most people pick a perfume the wrong way.
They walk into a store, spray three things on paper strips, smell nothing useful because their nose gave up after the second one, and end up buying whatever the salesperson pushed hardest. Then they get home, spray it on skin, and wonder why it smells completely different from what they remembered in the store.
Sound familiar?
Choosing a fragrance is one of those things nobody really teaches you. And yet, it is one of the most personal decisions you make because a scent stays with you all day, it is the first thing some people notice about you and the last thing others remember. It deserves more than a rushed decision under fluorescent lighting.
This guide exists to change that. Whether you are buying your very first perfume or your fifteenth, by the end of this you will know exactly what to look for, what to avoid and how to find the scent that genuinely feels like yours.
WHAT IS AN EDP AND WHY DOES IT MATTER
Before anything else, let us talk about concentration because this is where most people waste money without realising it.
Perfumes come in different strengths. The most common ones you will see are EDT (Eau de Toilette) and EDP (Eau de Parfum). The difference is simple: EDP has a higher concentration of fragrance oil, which means it lasts significantly longer on skin and projects better throughout the day.
A typical EDT lasts three to four hours. An EDP lasts six to eight hours, sometimes more depending on your skin type.
All Sigma Style fragrances are EDPs. That is not a marketing point it is a practical one. When you are heading into a full day of work, college or a late evening out, you do not want to be reapplying every few hours. You want one spray in the morning to carry you through.
The other thing worth knowing: Sigma Style uses a no-gas formula. This means what comes out of the bottle is pure fragrance — not a diluted aerosol spray. You get more product, better projection and a cleaner application every time.
THE THREE LAYERS OF EVERY FRAGRANCE
Every perfume has three stages. Understanding them changes the way you shop forever.
Top notes are what you smell in the first five to fifteen minutes. They are the brightest, sharpest part of the fragrance citrus, light fruits, fresh greens. They make the first impression but they do not stay long. This is exactly why you should never judge a perfume in the first minute of wearing it.
Heart notes emerge once the top notes fade, usually around fifteen to thirty minutes in. These form the personality of the fragrance florals, spices, herbs, woods. This is the part you will be wearing for most of the day and the part that matters most when choosing.
Base notes are the foundation. They come in last and stay the longest sometimes for hours after everything else has settled. Musk, amber, sandalwood, vanilla. These are the notes that make a fragrance feel deep, warm and long-lasting on skin.
When you smell a perfume and think it smells different after a few hours, that is not your imagination. The fragrance is genuinely evolving. The version you smell at hour three is not the same as the version at minute one. This is why applying on skin and giving it time is the only real way to know if a fragrance works for you.
HOW SKIN AFFECTS YOUR PERFUME
Here is something most people do not know: the same perfume smells different on different people.
Your skin chemistry its pH, oiliness, temperature and even what you ate that day — interacts with fragrance oil in a way that makes the result uniquely yours. This is not a flaw. It is actually what makes perfume so personal.
Oilier skin tends to hold fragrance longer because the oils give it something to grip onto. Dry skin often finds that perfume fades faster. The simple fix: apply an unscented moisturiser before you spray. It makes a noticeable difference.
Warm skin also amplifies fragrance. Pulse points wrists, neck, inner elbows, behind the ears and behind the knees are areas where blood vessels sit close to the surface and generate heat. Spraying on these spots helps the fragrance radiate outward naturally throughout the day.
And the most common mistake: rubbing your wrists together after spraying. It breaks down the molecular structure of the top notes and flattens the scent. Spray, and leave it alone.
FINDING YOUR FRAGRANCE FAMILY
Perfumes broadly fall into families, and knowing which family you naturally gravitate toward narrows down your choices immediately. Read the table below and stop at the row that sounds most like you.
Most people find they sit comfortably in one or two families. A good starting point is to pick your family first, then explore the individual planets within it rather than trying everything at once and ending up confused.
| Fragrance Family | The Vibe | Best For | Sigma Style Planets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh and Aquatic | Clean, crisp, ocean air | Daily wear, heavy summers, office | Pluto, Luna, Moon |
| Citrus | Bright, zesty, energising | Monday mornings, gym, outdoor plans | Saturn, Makemake |
| Floral | Soft and romantic to bold and loud | Versatile, works year-round | Mercury, Venus, Ceres, Huya, Eris, Varda |
| Woody and Earthy | Grounding, complex, warm | Evenings, cooler months, travel | Uranus, Charon, Earth, Gonggong, Neptune |
| Oriental and Fruity | Rich, indulgent, social | Parties, date nights, making a statement | Europa, Kepler, Sedna, Haumea, Tatania |
| Herbal and Aromatic | Calming, deeply personal, spiritual | Unconventional wear, spiritual moments | Jupiter |
CHOOSING BY OCCASION
A fragrance that works perfectly in one situation can feel completely wrong in another. Thinking about when and where you will wear something is just as important as liking how it smells.
For office and daily wear, choose something clean, moderate in projection and easy to be around. You share spaces with people who may not share your fragrance preferences. Pluto, Saturn, Mars, Moon and Mercury all work here without ever overpowering a room.
For evenings and nights out, you can go louder, warmer and more complex. Kepler, Charon, Orcus and Gonggong are built for this — fragrances that develop beautifully under artificial light and linger long after the night ends.
For dates, pick something skin-close and memorable rather than loud. Mercury, Venus, Europa and Huya sit close to the body and create an intimacy that works in your favour.
For festive occasions and celebrations, reach for something warm and distinctive. Jupiter, Earth, Tatania and Ceres are all strong enough to carry through a crowded wedding hall or a festive gathering and still smell intentional.
For casual days and outdoor plans, light aquatics and citrus fragrances feel the most natural. Pluto, Luna, Sedna, Varda and Makemake — easy, breezy and completely right for a day where you are not thinking about your fragrance at all.
CHOOSING BY SEASON
India has a climate that most global fragrance brands do not design for. Heavy Western fragrances built for European winters can turn sour and overwhelming in Indian summer heat. This is why all Sigma Style fragrances are tested specifically for Indian heat, humidity and long daily wear.
Summer and monsoon call for lighter, fresher fragrances. Aquatics, citrus and mild florals sit well in heat. Pluto, Saturn, Luna, Makemake, Sedna and Huya are your best summer companions.
Winter is when the warmer, heavier fragrances come into their own. Woody, oriental and gourmand fragrances deepen beautifully in cool weather and project longer. Kepler, Charon, Europa, Uranus, Earth and Tatania all perform their best between November and February.
Monsoon is its own category — a season that calls for freshness but also some warmth. Varda, Moon, Mars and Neptune work particularly well when the air is heavy with rain.
HOW TO ACTUALLY TEST A PERFUME
If you are testing a new fragrance, spray it on your wrist not paper. Paper tells you almost nothing useful.
Give it fifteen minutes before forming an opinion. Smell it again at thirty minutes and then again after an hour. You are looking for something that smells good across all three checkpoints, not just the first.
Avoid testing more than three fragrances in one session. Your nose fatigues quickly and starts to blur the differences. If you have a 10ml bottle, this is actually the smartest way to try a fragrance wear it for a full day before deciding. That is the only real test.
The Sigma Style 10ml size exists for exactly this reason. Try it before you commit to 30ml or 50ml. At Rs 149, it is the lowest-risk way to find a fragrance that genuinely works on your skin, in your life, in your climate.
ONE LAST THING
The best fragrance is not the most expensive one, the most popular one or the one someone else recommended. It is the one that smells like it belongs on you — the one you put on in the morning without thinking and feel slightly off without.
That is what we are trying to help you find.
25 planets. 25 personalities. One is yours.
